We Taste: Loquat, Blood Orange, Oolong Tea
Jhon owns and operates his small 3 hectare farm, La Estrella, alongside his wife and two daughters. On the farm there are approximately 11,000 coffee trees of the Chiroso variety, which is an Ethiopian landrace variety that is predominantly only grown in the Antioquia region of Colombia. Chiroso often carries a lot of the cup character one might expect from Ethiopian washed coffees, and this lot from Jhon is no exception. We're finding flavors reminiscent of loquat, blood orange, meyer lemon, and delicate tea-like florals.
This is our first year purchasing Jhon's coffee, however, we have had great experiences of his coffee from one of our personal favorite roasters in years past. We're excited to have the opportunity to roast his coffee ourselves this year and to continue showcasing one of our favorite varieties.
