Las Perlitas is a community lot of exceptional quality from smallholder producers in Huila, Colombia. Oftentimes, a lot from a single producer may be too small to logistically separate and export and will be sold in a local market or will be blended in with other lots of varying quality to create a regional blend that can muddy transparency in the supply chain and doesn’t necessarily financially compensate for higher cup quality. Because of this, community lots can be attached to a preconceived notion that their quality will lower than that of a separated lot from a single producer. With more intentional separating, community lots serve as a great way to increase market access to smallholders across various tiers of quality from their harvests and can result in incredible final coffees. Las Perlitas is a great example that we can always point to. Year after year, it’s always one of the coffees we enjoy most. This late harvest is loaded with jammy berry flavors, ripe citrus, and sweet florals.
