We were fortunate to meet Angel Arturo Paz at this year's World of Coffee in San Diego, and Prodigal has a new Honduran hero. Angel was able to find several coffees that suited us well, and he may hold a record for "quickest to dispatch". In our pursuit of preserving quality at every step, Angel was able to exceed all our expectations. He also connected us with COE winner Patricio Navarro's lovely typica, and now we're thrilled to share our first 2026 lot from Angel himself, El Itacayo Geisha. This coffee is refined, delicate, and delicious. The fruit is focused and clean melon and peach leather, with little trace of process flavor. This limited lot went to our subscribers first in August, and now it's available to all!

Angel’s 3 hectare farm, Itacayo, located in the famed Santa Bárbara region of Honduras, is planted with 70% Pacas variety and 30% geisha. Similar to his 2025 COE-winning lot, this coffee was processed using a 48/48 anaerobic method. First the whole cherries fermented anaerobically for 48 hours. After depulping, the now cherry-less, parchment-covered seed fermented anaerobically for another 48 hours. Subsequent to fermentation, the parchment was rinsed four times. The coffee dried for 18 days in a solar drier, with hand-sorting to remove defects.

Angel is a 3rd generation coffee farmer and has processed coffee at the San Vicente mill since he was young. In 2007 he bought his first property, the renowned La Colmena, and after just two years he was producing specialty grade coffee there. At Itacayo, he harvested his first crop in 2021 and won COE shortly thereafter.
