Los Brujos

Description

Los Brujos sits above Potrerillos, on the southern flank of the Barú Volcano in Chiriquí. It belongs to Hacienda Bárbara Estates, the Panamanian side of the Rogers family, and the farming is run by Hunter Tedman, who has served twice as president of the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama and farms his own Black Moon nearby. The land went organic more than a decade ago and is being worked toward regenerative practice now, with about half of it left standing as forest.

The farm is sheltered from the wind. By the estate's own account that shelter is what sets Los Brujos apart from its neighbours, a humid pocket of forest on the slope that gives the coffee a heavier and more distinctive shape than the rest of the district. The first coffee they entered from this farm took fifth place in the Varietals category at Best of Panama in 2022.

This one is Pacamara, the big leafed cross of Pacas and Maragogype, grown here at roughly 1500-1750 masl.

We taste licorice, tropical fruit and dried apricot.
