Description

Elida Estate sits in Alto Quiel, on the slopes of the Barú Volcano above Boquete. Robert Louis Lamastus founded it in 1918 and the family is now in its fourth generation. About half of the estate lies inside the Volcán Barú National Park, so the coffee grows right up against virgin cloud forest, in deep volcanic soil, under the bajareque mist that rolls through in the dry season. Nights up there are cold, which stretches the ripening out and gives the sugars and the aromatics time to build.

Torre is a broad parcel in the mid upper part of the estate, named for the tower that stands on its ridge, and it sits at 1785-1835 masl. It is the ground behind the family's first place in the Geisha Washed category at Best of Panama 2026. This is a different lot picked from that same parcel, not the winning lot itself.

The cherries were picked fully ripe and pulped the evening of harvest, then fermented in cold highland water before being washed clean. Drying is the family's DRD method, Dark Room Dried, done in a room with no direct sunlight so the coffee dries slowly and evenly and the delicate aromatics survive. Reposo started on the 20th of March 2026.

We taste white blossom and peach, bergamot lifting through the middle, and honey underneath. It is washed Geisha drawn about as cleanly as we have seen it.
