Farm and Producer
Melese Wolde farms in Shantawane in Ethiopia's Bensa district. He obtained his own export license in 2018 after previously selling cherries to private washing stations.
His eldest son helps run the harvest. Coffee dries on raised beds, with tarpaulins used to protect it from rain; this selection is listed from 2,000–2,100 meters.
Variety
74158 identifies the Ethiopian planting selections used in this lot. Numbered selections are part of Ethiopia’s approach to maintaining and improving coffee planting material, alongside locally named landraces.
Processing
Natural processing dries the coffee with the cherry surrounding the seed. Contact with the fruit during fermentation and drying can contribute to fruit expression and body; careful moisture management remains important.
