Farm and Producer

José Luis Eguiguren oversees Hacienda Santa Gertrudis in Malacatos, Loja. Coffee has been part of his family's farm since his grandfather Luis Emilio planted it in 1954; José Luis has developed a focus on specialty varieties and separate lot preparations.

The farm has its own wet and dry mills. Its work also extends to neighboring growers through milling, storage, technical assistance, and export support.

Variety

Gesha, also spelled Geisha, is an Arabica variety with Ethiopian origins. It is valued for high cup-quality potential and floral aromatics, especially under suitable high-elevation growing conditions. Its expression also depends on cultivation, processing, and roasting.

Processing

Honey processing removes the cherry skin while retaining some mucilage, the sticky fruit layer around the seed, during drying. No honey is added: the name refers to that retained fruit material, which can influence sweetness and texture.
