Farm and Producer
José Ignacio Gómez López is a second-generation coffee producer at Los Ángeles in Buesaco, Nariño. He began growing coffee in the 1990s, and the roughly nine-hectare farm now includes Gesha, Pink Bourbon and Papayo. Fruit trees and plantains grow alongside the coffee for shade and household use, with seasonal corn and beans also cultivated.
Variety
Gesha, also spelled Geisha, is an Arabica variety with Ethiopian origins. It is valued for high cup-quality potential and floral aromatics, especially under suitable high-elevation growing conditions. Its expression also depends on cultivation, processing, and roasting.
Processing
Selected ripe cherries are washed and sorted by flotation, then ferment whole in closed tanks. After depulping, a second fermentation takes place with the mucilage retained and without added water. The coffee is then washed with potable water and dried in the sun.
