Farm and Producer

Hacienda Santa Gertrudis in Malacatos, Loja, has been in the Eguiguren family for generations. Luis Emilio Eguiguren first planted coffee there in 1954; today José Luis Eguiguren focuses on specialty production with several separately cultivated varieties. The farm operates its own wet and dry mills and also helps neighboring growers with milling, storage, export preparation and technical support.

Variety

SL28 was selected in Kenya in the 1930s and has since spread to other coffee-growing countries. It combines drought tolerance with high cup-quality potential; growing conditions and post-harvest work shape the expression of each lot.

Processing

Ripe red cherries are fermented in tanks, then transferred to drying beds with the fruit intact. Once dry, the coffee remains protected inside the dried cherry until it is milled for export.
