Farm and Producer

Finca La Riviera lies near Pereira in Risaralda, Colombia, and forms part of the coffee work of Julio César Madrid and processor Julio Andrés Quiceno. The farm cultivates multiple varieties in separate small lots, at elevations broadly ranging from 1,600 to 1,900 meters; this selection is listed at 1,700 meters.

Variety

Castillo was developed by Cenicafé in Colombia from Caturra and Timor Hybrid material. Its breeding emphasizes adaptation, productivity, and resistance to coffee leaf rust, while retaining the potential to produce quality coffee under careful cultivation and processing.

Processing

JAQ Crepe Cultured is Julio Andrés Quiceno’s preparation using pineapple in the first fermentation stage and banana in the second, together with starter cultures. Those additions are part of processing and are distinct from the Castillo variety. After fermentation, this lot receives a washed finish.
