Farm and Producer

Basha Bekele grows coffee in semi-forested plots in Bensa, Sidama, and also buys cherries from nearby farmers. After gaining his own export license, he developed collection sites in Bombe, Shantawane and Kokose. This selection comes from Bombe at 2,210 meters and is identified as 74158, known locally as Walega.

Variety

74158 identifies the Ethiopian planting selections used in this lot. Numbered selections are part of Ethiopia’s approach to maintaining and improving coffee planting material, alongside locally named landraces.

Processing

Basha’s natural coffees are sorted by flotation before drying as whole cherries on raised beds. He also produces experimental preparations, but this listing is the natural selection; its fruit remains around the seeds during drying.
