Farm and Producer
Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton’s Gesha Village lies in southwestern Ethiopia. This coffee comes from Oma, one of the estate’s separately tracked growing blocks. Coffee is cultivated in an agroforestry system with indigenous shade trees and brown-red loamy soil; the farm follows cherries by block through processing and export.
Variety
Gesha 1931 is Gesha Village’s selection from the diverse coffee population of the nearby Gori Gesha forest. The team selected plants for their resemblance to Panamanian Geisha in plant form, bean shape and cup profile. It is kept separate from the estate’s broader Gori Gesha selection and its Illubabor Forest cultivar.
Processing
Natural processing dries the coffee with the cherry surrounding the seed. Contact with the fruit during fermentation and drying can contribute to fruit expression and body; careful moisture management remains important.
